Latvia’s highest award in music “Lielā muziksi balva” (LMB) celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year. Monika Cālīte talks to LMB ceremony director Guntar Ķirsi, composer Anna Fišer and saxophonist Kārli Auzina about how the Latvian music environment has developed and changed in the last thirty years, and, of course, what to expect at the award ceremony.

LMB is the highest Latvian state award in music. It was founded in 1993, when the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, on the initiative of the then Minister of Culture Raimonds Paulus, decided to annually honor the best achievements in the musical life of our country with a special award.

The award ceremony will take place on March 7, 2023 at the Latvian National Opera. This year’s nominees were announced in January – read more about it here.

“KultūrKlubs” is a program of “Delfi TV”, the episodes of which are published every week on Fridays at 4 p.m. In the program, Monika talks about the interesting and current things in the world of culture, pop culture and entertainment together with popular cultural figures in Latvian society.

The latest episodes of the show are available Apple and Spotify in podcasts!
