Last year, one of Meta’s biggest events was the launch of the $1,500 Meta Quest Pro virtual reality (VR) glasses. Taking into account the active activity in the fields of metaverse and virtual, augmented reality (AR), it is clear that “Meta” is not going to stop there. The company has discussed with employees the latest plans related to VR and AR hardware, which includes the release of full-fledged augmented reality glasses in 2027.
The new AR glasses will be Meta’s “‘iPhone’ moment,” according to Mark Zuckerberg. He explains that they could “shake up the industry and become as popular as the iPhone”.
Meta’s new AR glasses are expected to be excellent for enjoying the metaverse. The company says they will be able to project digital avatars as high-quality holograms and place them in the real world. “Meta” employees will be able to test the new glasses from 2024. However, since it is expected that improvements will be needed, the device will reach the first customers three years later – in 2027. I think that around this time the market for VR and AR glasses will be quite rich (which “Meta” will definitely take care of), they will have a wider application and, therefore, more interest from consumers.
At the same time, plans for other VR and AR glasses, which will be released earlier than 2027, were discussed at the meeting of “Meta” employees. For example, this fall “Meta” in cooperation with “Ray-Ban” will release the second generation of smart glasses “Ray-Ban Stories”. Quest 3 VR glasses will also hit the market later this year. Next year, the company hopes to launch new virtual reality glasses “Ventura” and in 2025 – the third generation of “Ray-Ban Stories”.
