SC Heerenveen has not succeeded in keeping its own supporters in line. The Frisians caused unrest after the lost match against Feyenoord in the TOTO KNVB Cup.
“In one of the sky boxes, cheers sounded after the victory of the team from Rotterdam, after which supporters of Heerenveen ran in that direction,” writes RTLnieuws.nl. “Stewards and security people from sc Heerenveen managed to get the supporters away quickly.”
It resulted in a few skirmishes in the corner of the Abe Lenstra stadium between SC Heerenveen staff and supporters. Calm returned quickly after exchanges of words. There were no disturbances during the match.
The management of SC Heerenveen had taken measures in advance to prevent incidents. It went wrong three years ago. Supporters of Feyenoord were in the home sections and the fanatical supporters of SC Heerenveen were not served by that.
This resulted in several riots. To prevent a repetition, it was decided not to use free ticket sales for the cup match on Wednesday evening. As a result, only 14,000 supporters of the home team were present in the Abe Lenstra stadium.
