Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority, revealed that work on the new expansion project will start in the middle of this year, which will raise the airport’s capacity from 13 million passengers currently to 20 million passengers within 3 years.
Al-Midfa said in statements to “Al-Ittihad” on the sidelines of the forum honoring strategic and media partners under the slogan “Together we move forward”, that the new expansion project will take 3 years, pointing to the possibility of reaching 25 million passengers with a capacity.
Al Midfa noted the achievement achieved by Sharjah Airport during the year 2022 by receiving more than 13 million passengers, compared to 7 million passengers during the previous year, a growth of 84.73%, and the increase in aircraft movement to record 87,495 flights, compared to 57,679 until the end of 2021, an increase of 51.69%, approaching From pre-pandemic levels, “Covid-19”, during which the airport received 13.6 million passengers during 2019.
The Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority said: “These record results represent a qualitative leap on our path towards excellence and leadership, and a true representation of the visions and aspirations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Emirate’s Executive Council. It also supports our strategic directions in revitalizing the travel sector in the Emirate of Sharjah, and our aspirations to provide a unique level of services to travelers. This will enhance our investments towards increasing the airport’s capacity and enriching the airport’s network of tourist destinations,” praising the efficiency of human resources and advanced infrastructure.
Al-Midfa pointed out that the indicators of the current year indicate a continued growth in the number of passengers and air traffic, especially in light of the expansion of the network of destinations of companies operating at the airport, especially Air Arabia.
The Sharjah International Airport Authority organized a forum honoring its strategic and media partners under the slogan “Together We Move Forward”, in appreciation of their efforts and contributions in promoting and supporting the authority’s work towards providing a unique travel experience and distinguished services to travelers.
For his part, Sheikh Faisal bin Saud Al Qasimi stressed, in his speech, the authority’s commitment to providing high-level support to its partners, providing them with a suitable environment, and supervising the implementation of their work inside Sharjah Airport within the highest international quality standards. The ceremony included a video presentation of the most important achievements made by Sharjah International Airport Authority during the year 2022, as a continuation of the development process that it started since its establishment.
