The 21-year-old contestant said that what prompted him to participate in the program was the mass shooting that occurred at his high school, Santa Fe, in 2018, in which 10 people died.
He said, “In May 2018, a gunman stormed my school, I was in drawing room No. 1, and shooting took place in drawing room No. 2, before the gunman made his way to room No. 1.”
He continued, “Eight students were killed, and two teachers were killed. It was very bad.”
It made Katy Perry lose control of her tears and said, “Our country has failed us,” referring to the US government’s failure to take strict measures against civilians who carry weapons.
And Perry continued, “It’s not good.. You should be singing here because you love the music, not because he had to go through this tragic accident, you didn’t have to lose eight friends. I hope you can remind people that we have to change, because I’m scared too.”
