Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia PT Hillcon Tbk (HILL) is the largest nickel mining contractor in Indonesia. To continue to be a major player, Hillcon intends to open 3 new mines this year.

“We have about 15% of the market share in nickel contractors. The competitors are for example Putra Daerah. But, the difference with us, the capacity is much smaller than ours. So if we can do mining for several projects,” said Director of Finance Jaya Angdika in the process of listing the initial shares at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Wednesday (1/3/2023).

It is known, the nickel industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in Indonesia. Nickel products are currently experiencing very high demand, especially in the form of ferronickel and NPI (nickel pig iron). Indonesia also exports Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) which is then further processed into nickel sulphate, the main material for making electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

In its development, Hillcon as a nickel mining company in Indonesia will increase its production capacity to produce EV batteries domestically so that it can provide increased domestic demand for nickel in Indonesia.

To that end, Hillcon estimates gross profit margin growth of 35% from last year. To achieve this, one way is to open a new mine.

“There are 3 new mines in the contract pipeline,” said Jaya in his press conference.

Apart from adding new mines, his company targets a minimum production volume to increase to 6 million metric tons per year from all production sectors, including coal, nickel and infrastructure. It is known, its production is located in Sulawesi.
