The Climate Change Law obliges municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to have ZBE (Low Emission Zones) circulation zones next year, 2023. These are very specific regulations to specify circulation through the urban nucleus of certain vehicles according to their DGT environmental label. The objective of this standard is to reduce pollution levels and improve air quality.
Madrid, Barcelona, Gijón and Rivas-Vaciamadrid (in the province of Madrid) have already launched this initiative, but next year there will be more than a hundred that will have to join this proposal, among which are various towns in the province of Malaga, as well as the capital. According to the population data compiled by the FEMP (Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces), in our country there are a total of up to 149 municipalities and cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
At the moment, there is no common criterion that establishes which types of vehicles will finally be able to circulate inside these ZBE zones, since it will be each City Council through its different municipal ordinances that will impose the specific restrictions and specific.
