Goal festival on the 58th match day of the German Ice Hockey League: Nuremberg beat Straubing 7:4 in front of more than 4,000 spectators, EHC Munich defeated Iserlohn 8:3. ERC Ingolstadt and the Augsburg Panthers can also celebrate victories in the final sprint of the main round.
Home win for Nuremberg Ice Tigers against Straubing
After five wins in a row, the Straubing Tigers lost the game against the Ice Tigers in Nuremberg 4:7 in the German Ice Hockey League. The Lower Bavarians took the lead in the 3rd minute through Akeson, but then had to leave the game to the Franconian hosts, who were already leading 6:1 after 38 minutes. Straubing’s race to catch up in the final third was unsuccessful.
Ice Tigers qualified for playoffs
Because Nuremberg’s direct competitors for the pre-playoff places, the Eisbären Berlin and the Schwenninger Wild Wings, each lost their games, they can no longer displace Nuremberg from the playoff places. Tom Rowe’s team is currently in ninth place.
Two main round games left
On Friday, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers will play their last home game of the main round against the Löwen Frankfurt. Finally, they have to go to Bremerhaven on Sunday before the pre-playoffs start next week. Who will be the opponent there and whether Nuremberg have home rights will probably only be decided on Sunday.
Straubing remains third ahead of Mannheim
Despite the defeat in Nuremberg, the Straubingers remain third in the table because the Augsburg Panthers defeated the Adler from Mannheim 5:4 after extra time. Two games before the end of the DEL main round, Niederbayern have a one-point lead.
Munich and Ingolstadt march ahead
EHC Red Bull Munich sent the guests from Iserlohn home with a score of 8:3. ERC Ingolstadt won 3:2 against Bietigheim Steelers, completed the 100 points and secured second place in the table. The Steelers have been relegated and after only two years in the upper house they have to go back to the DEL2.
Augsburg Panther threatens weeks of hanging game
The Augsburg Panthers won 5:4 (1:2, 2:1, 1:1) after extra time against the Adler Mannheim and will end the main round in penultimate place 14. This means that the Swabians can still be relegated despite the victory on Tuesday. But only if Kassel, Krefeld or Dresden win the playoffs in the DEL2. Only these teams meet the economic requirements for promotion to the DEL.
Since the DEL will be reduced again to 14 teams for the coming season, there will only be two relegations if one team is also promoted. Until that is certain, Augsburg is now threatened with a week-long stalemate without planning security.
