Gurgaon –
A mother locked herself and her child at home for three years for fear of contracting COVID-19. Now that the lockdown rules have been lifted and activity restrictions relaxed, he still doesn’t want to leave the house.
The woman from Gurugram, India, experienced a condition called extreme paranoia with COVID-19. When the pandemic first broke out in March 2020, he immediately locked himself up at home.
The news about the deaths of tens of thousands of Indians due to COVID-19 shocked him. This 36-year-old woman thought that the only way to save herself and her child, who was then 7 years old, was to isolate herself from the outside world.
This woman named Munmun Majhi also forced her husband to stay at home. But once her husband finally left the house for work after the lockdown ended, he forbade her to return home.
For three years, her husband, Sujan Majhi, was separated from his family because of his wife’s unfounded fears. Until finally he was tired and embarrassed, and decided to ask the police for help.
Sujan went to the police on 13 February 2023 and said that his wife had locked herself in their apartment for three years. During that time he also had to rent his own place to live after being banned from going home.
During his life apart, Sujan continued to pay rent for the apartment and buy various household needs, which he left at the door. Sujan hoped that things would return to normal in a few months, but in reality it took longer than that.
When hearing Sujan’s story, at first the police found it hard to believe. They also contacted Munmun to find out the situation. He admitted that his condition and that of his son – who is now 10 years old – is good and healthy.
However, once the police confirmed via video call, they saw that the inside of the house was in poor condition. Her house is a mess, trash is piled up everywhere, and her son looks unkempt with long, shoulder-length hair.
The police persuaded Munmun to come out and get medical treatment. Initially he refused on the grounds that he did not want his child to die from exposure to the outside air where the Corona virus was spread.
After constant persuasion, the woman finally came out and came to the police station. But the child is still locked up at home.
Munmun agreed to be taken to the hospital after the police convinced him. And that’s when they rushed into the apartment to evacuate the child.
“The trash hadn’t been taken out in three years, so there were piles of trash everywhere, a thick layer of dirt covered every surface, and the walls were covered in writing and pictures, most likely by the son, who had interacted with no one except his mother during the lockdown. long time,” explained the police, as quoted from Oddity Central.
Now both Munmun and his son are going to a psychiatrist for counseling. Meanwhile, Sujan hopes his family can gather again and live a normal life as usual.
