Moscow announced today that it shot down two Ukrainian drones last night, which were tasked with attacking civilian infrastructure in southern Russia, amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, AFP reported.

“The Kyiv regime attempted to attack civilian infrastructure sites in the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea with drones,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“The two drones … were neutralized” without causing any damage, the ministry said.

The announcement comes after authorities in another Russian region, Bryansk Oblast, bordering Ukraine, said earlier this morning that a Ukrainian drone had also been shot down there.

The incident did not cause “neither casualties nor damage”, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, assured in Telegram.

In addition, remains of three drones were found overnight in the streets of residential areas of Belgorod, the capital of the region of the same name, also bordering Ukraine, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, populated areas and infrastructure sites in Russian regions bordering the former Soviet republic have been repeatedly targeted by strikes, particularly by drones, and often deadly, attributed by Moscow to the Ukrainian army.
