There are 160 motorbike units that have been converted to electricity, the majority being scooters

Ministry of Communications or Ministry of Transportation revealed, there were already 160 units of gasoline motorbikes that were converted into electric motor. The Ministry of Transportation is sure that the number will increase after the government issues regulations on conversion vehicle subsidies.

Head of Public Vehicle Certificate Head of the Directorate of Road Transportation Facilities Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Joko Kusnanto emphasized that the gasoline motorbike that has been converted into an electric vehicle has received a Type Test Registration Certification (SRUT) from the Ministry of Transportation.

“Currently there are 160 motorbikes that have been converted into electric motorbikes. Maybe because motorbikes in Indonesia are still dominated by automatic scooters, so there are more in that direction,” said Joko Kusnanto when met at Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, recently.

According to Joko, the process of converting a petrol motorbike to an electric motorbike does not take long, which is around 45 minutes. Thus, the repair shop can work on dozens or even dozens of vehicles in a day.

“Because now it’s a package, right. So before the conversion was prepared, this is the motorbike, this is the battery, all the electricity is also prepared. No need to cut cables anymore, just plug and play. Remove, replace, test,” he explained.

Number of Electric Motorbike Conversion Workshops in Indonesia

Furthermore, Joko Kusnanto explained, the number of molis conversion workshops in Indonesia is currently only 22. Meanwhile, there are only six for non-molis.

“Now there are 22 motorbikes (conversion workshops) throughout Indonesia, and six non-motorcycles,” said Joko.

Joko ensured that the process of applying for a Molis conversion workshop was actually not difficult. Provided that the workshop has a competent workforce and standard conversion equipment.

“First, you have to have a workshop permit, second, have competent human resources, then have competence in the mechanical and electrical fields, have equipment for conversion and testing equipment as well,” he said.
