Al-Marsad Newspaper: The wife of the late Sheikh’s grandson, Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi, revealed the latest developments in their dispute with film critic Tariq Al-Shennawi and critic Magda Khairallah, after their recent insulting statements to the late Sheikh.

The wife of Sheikh Al-Shaarawi’s grandson said that the case is still ongoing, explaining that the prosecution has already summoned the critic Tariq Al-Shennawi and the critic Magda Khairallah during the last period in order to investigate them.

And the wife of Sheikh Al-Shaarawi’s grandson continued: I will not give up the case, and Al-Shaarawi’s right must return to how he insults him, and this is a need that he cannot be silent about.

And she continued: No one insults religious scholars, everything that is wrong must be held accountable because Al-Shaarawi is not an ordinary man.

And the Egyptian Ministry of Culture had announced a plan for theatrical works for the year 2023, including a play about Sheikh Al-Shaarawi, which sparked widespread controversy among his supporters and opponents.

Art critic Tariq Al-Shennawi was the first to launch a scathing attack on Sheikh Al-Shaarawi after announcing the play, saying: “He had very reactionary ideas, and his spirituality was backward and not modern.”

Egyptian critic Magda Khairallah criticized the late sheikh, saying in press statements: “Al-Shaarawi did not benefit society and was not an enlightening man. He rejected science, created discord between Muslims and Christians, and achieved terrifying fortunes.”
