Sounds unfamiliar? For people with Alzheimer’s disease, a ‘dust shoe’ can be the most normal thing in the world. In its own words, the striped cleaning slippers of the textile chain are ‘a symbol of the confusion that people with Alzheimer’s disease have to deal with every day.’
Zeeman X TeamAlzheimer
Kasper Figee (Zeeman): ‘The entire profit from the sale of our fabric slippers goes to the Alzheimer Center in Amsterdam. This is badly needed, because there is still no medicine. That’s why the dust slippers don’t have the lowest possible price this time.’
prof. Dr. Yolande Pijnenburg, neurologist and director of the Alzheimer’s Center: ‘Dementia has a huge impact on the person who has it and his/her loved ones. But before dementia develops, the disease already starts in the brain. This not only leads to memory loss, but also to difficulty speaking, doing everyday things and changing behaviour. In order to treat Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, or rather to prevent them, we investigate what goes wrong in the brain. We hope to contribute to the solution through better detection and understanding of brain diseases that lead to dementia.’
Zeeman’s dust slippers are available from this week for 4.99 euros in the webshop and in the store.
The #stofslofchallenge will start from 24 February via Zeeman’s social media channels (Instagram & TikTok).
Everyone who participates can experience for themselves what it feels like to confuse or not be able to name simple and everyday things. Zeeman and Team Alzheimer have asked a number of involved influencers and celebrities to take up the challenge and thus get more attention for the dust shoe. The first posts are now online: for example, Heel Holland Bakt jury member Janny van der Heijden, tidying and household expert Zamarra Kok show how far they have come with the challenge.
