7,774 male and female citizens married foreigners in 4 emirates

Statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice regarding marriages documented in four emirates, namely Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, revealed that the relevant departments concluded 7 thousand and 774 marriage contracts for male and female citizens who married non-citizens (residents), in the period from 2010 to 2022.

According to the numbers issued for marriage cases, according to the nationalities of the husband and wife, the percentage of males’ desire to marry non-citizens is the largest, at 73.4%, compared to the females’ desire to marry non-citizens, with a difference of 4,498 cases.

The total number of registered marriages of citizens to non-citizens in the four emirates (Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah) from 2010 to 2020 (12 years) amounted to 6,136 marriages, while the total number of cases registered in the same period of female citizens who married non-citizens reached 1638 cases.

The statistics, copies of which Al-Bayan obtained, indicated that the Emirate of Sharjah acquired the largest percentage of the total number of marriage contracts concluded, with 3,968 marriage contracts, of which 3,073 marriage contracts were for a citizen to a non-national, and 895 marriage contracts for a citizen to a non-citizen.

According to the statistics, the Emirate of Ajman ranked second in the total number of registered marriages, with 2589 marriage contracts, including 2136 marriage contracts for a citizen to a non-citizen and 453 marriage contracts for a citizen to a non-citizen, from 2010 to 2022, followed by the Emirate of Fujairah, which It witnessed the registration of 787 marriage cases, including 606 marriages of a citizen to a non-citizen, and 181 marriages of a female citizen to a non-citizen.

As for the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, the courts affiliated to it, represented by the Umm Al Quwain Sharia Court of First Instance and the Falaj Al Mualla Sharia Court, witnessed the registration of 430 marriage cases, distributed as 321 marriage contracts for a citizen to a non-citizen, and 109 marriage contracts for a citizen to a non-citizen, in the same period.

The statistical report indicated that the registered contracts were concluded in 11 courts belonging to the four emirates, including 6 courts belonging to the Emirate of Sharjah, which are Sharjah Sharia Court, Al Dhaid Federal Primary Court, Khorfakkan Primary School, Khorfakkan Federal Primary School, Kalba Federal Primary School, and Dibba Al Hisn Federal Primary School.

There are two courts affiliated with the Emirate of Fujairah, namely the Fujairah Court of First Instance, the Dibba Al-Fujairah Sharia Court of First Instance, two courts in Umm Al Quwain, which are the Umm Al Quwain Sharia Court of First Instance, and the Falaj Al Mualla Sharia Court, and one court in the Emirate of Ajman, which is the Ajman Sharia Court.

And the Ministry of Justice had approved, earlier, a package of initiatives aimed at facilitating marriage procedures, including the adoption of the “distance” marriage system, which does not require the presence of all parties to the court, so the procedures are completed by communicating with the authorized person with the spouses and the guardian simultaneously, and in one council, to complete rest of the marriage procedures.
