Jakarta, Petromine – The oil and gas industry is inseparable from exploration and production activities in the area offshore nor onshore. This is a challenge that must be faced by LEMIGAS in providing laboratory testing services effectively and efficiently.
Head of LEMIGAS, Ariana Soemanto, said that in response to this challenge, his party has now applied laboratory services onsite biostratigraphy. This service is applied in the form of a Stratigraphic Laboratory Unit Cabin which is mobile.
“Cabin Unit Onsite Biostratigraphy This facility is equipped with stratigraphic laboratory activities including preparation equipment such as oven, Centrifuge, Fume Hood, microscope binoculair for analysis Foraminifera, microscope polarization for analysis Nannoplankton as well as microscope transmition fluorescene for analysis palinology,” said Ariana, Monday (27/2).
He explained, like the standard laboratory in Lemigas, the cabin was also equipped with electrical installations, adequate water distribution and air conditioning facilities. This facility meets international qualification standards offshore with the 2.7-1 DNV Certificate which passed the visual test inspection, NDT inspection, load testmaterial verification and prototype testing.
“This lab unit is also equipped with standards safety like APAR, eye wash, Emergency lamp, Emergency exitmasks & other instructions,” explained Ariana.
According to him, the Stratigraphic Unit Cabin is intended to improve stratigraphic services in solving exploration problems in good fields onshore nor offshore regularly real time according to the target of drilling exploratory wells. Furthermore, the results of analysis regarding a certain age or zoning, as well as the boundaries of rock formations are very useful in supporting geological analysis in an integrated manner with data subsurface in drilling exploratory wells.
There are several advantages of using onsite/wellsite biostratigraphy. First, providing up-to-date biostratigraphic data directly at the drilling location. Second, provide biostratigraphic direction in drilling to reach the target reservoir or an important layer on interval coring.
Thirdly, it is very useful in target interpretation reservoir such as age and depositional environment and changes facies vertically or sedimentary succession, especially in the sedimentary part of the deltaic system. Fourth, provide a horizontal drilling direction so that it remains at intervals of the sediment layer as the reservoir target. Fifth, biostratigraphic analysis onsite regularly real time can help in controlling the data drilling as well as projected drilling data both vertically and horizontally according to the expected sediment layer intervals so that it is very effective.
On a separate occasion, Coordinator of Oil and Gas Exploration Testing, Junita Trivianty explained stratigraphy in conducting laboratory services and studies as well as technical activities in the field of technology including biostratigraphic analysis including foraminifera, nanoplangton, palinology and radiolaria in interpretation of age/zonation, depositional environment, components of the stratigraphic sequence , as well as identification fault/unconformity which is important in comprehensive geological model analysis.
Lab services onsite This has been utilized by PSC Contractors such as BUMN and its subsidiaries as well as domestic & foreign oil companies such as TOTAL EP Indonesia, PERTAMINA and its subsidiaries such as PHE Tuban East Java, PGN Saka Energi and in the near future working with PETROGAS in the Bird’s Head Area, Papua West.
