The United States (US) government issued a warning to China if desperate to send weapons assistance to Russia in the war in Ukraine. The US warned that there would be “real losses” if China did anything reckless.
Reported CNNMonday (27/2/2023) the warning came after Washington claimed Beijing was considering supplying drones and ammunition to Moscow.
The White House considers the war to present real complications for Beijing. Beijing itself is considered necessary to make a decision in providing military assistance.
“From our perspective, actually, this war presents real complications for Beijing. And Beijing has to make its own decisions about how to proceed, whether to provide military assistance,” said White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
“However, going down that route would be a real cost to our people China. And I think the leaders China are considering that when they make their decision,” he added in an interview with the program CNN ‘State of the Union’ on Sunday (26/2) local time.
In diplomatic conversations with China, said Sullivan, the US “did not just make direct threats.” The US is also said to have explained in detail the consequences that would occur.
“We’re just laying out the stakes and the consequences, how things will unfold. And we do that clearly and specifically behind closed doors,” he said.
