Tallon Greek track reached the second round of the ATP tournament in Dubai on Monday. The 26-year-old Dutchman settled in three sets with the Frenchman Constant Lestienne and may now meet Novak Djokovic.
Greek track is slightly higher in the world ranking than Lestienne (39th to 56th) and lived up to its status on the hard court in the United Arab Emirates. It became 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2.
The Dutchman got off to an excellent start with a break in the opening game. He did not give that advantage away in the first set. In the second set, one break was fatal to him, after which he took the win in the decisive set. He scored on his fourth match point.
In the eighth finals, a match against Djokovic is in the offing for Greek track. The number one in the world must first win his opening match against the Czech qualifier Tomás Machác on Tuesday.
If that succeeds, it will be the second time that Greek track and Djokovic meet. In 2021, our compatriot had no chance against the Serbian top player in the second round of the US Open (6-2, 6-3, 6-2).
Van de Zandschulp also participates in Dubai
Greek track, who gained one place in the world ranking on Monday and reached his highest ranking ever, stranded in the second round of the ATP tournament in Doha last week. A week earlier he reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam.
In addition to the Greek track, Botic van de Zandschulp will also be in action in Dubai. The best Dutch tennis player (ATP-33) will immediately face a tough job on Tuesday. He plays against Karen Khachanov, the world number fourteen.
