“Abu Muhammad” underwent a kidney transplant..and he lacks treatment

“Abu Muhammad” has suffered from kidney failure since 2012, and he underwent a kidney transplant at the expense of a charitable organization in the country. The doctors advised him to commit to taking his medications regularly, so that his health condition does not deteriorate after the operation. However, the problem he is currently going through is represented in his inability to buy the medicines he needs, as their value amounts to 57 thousand and 324 dirhams (for a year).

“Abu Muhammad” appealed to benevolent people and people with merciful hearts to help him manage the cost of medicines so that he could complete his treatment.

A report issued by Tawam Hospital in Al Ain confirms that the patient, who is 52 years old, (an Indian), underwent a kidney transplant, and that he is currently in need of medication “so that the transplantation he underwent does not fail and his health condition deteriorates.”

The report added that «the value of the medicines that the patient needs amounts to 4,777 dirhams per month».

“Abu Muhammad” told the “hotline” that the symptoms of the disease appeared in 2012, when he felt an increase in weight, swelling in the hands and face, a decrease in the number of times of urination, and difficulty in sleeping. When his condition worsened, his wife took him to the emergency department at Tawam Hospital, where he underwent laboratory tests and tests.

He added that the doctor supervising his condition told him that he was suffering from a sharp rise in blood pressure, which led to the accumulation of harmful substances and fluids in the body, and a decrease in the functional characteristics of the kidneys. Hence, he decided to undergo dialysis.

And the patient continued that he stayed in the hospital for 20 days, to perform dialysis, and to receive appropriate health care, until his health began to improve and respond to treatment.

At that point, the doctor told him that the best fit for his health condition was to perform a kidney transplant, follow up on the health situation by controlling blood pressure levels and rates, and avoid taking any medical medications without medical advice, because some medications cause severe damage to the kidneys, which leads to further deterioration in their functions.

He was also asked to follow a diet in which adequate amounts of calories and a balance of salts and fluids are consumed.

And the patient continued: «In August of 2012, I felt very tired, and my health began to deteriorate dramatically, so I was transferred to Khalifa City Hospital in Abu Dhabi. After examining the doctors and conducting tests, they assured me of the need for a kidney transplant. One of the charities in the country took care of all the expenses of the operation.

He continued that he stayed in the hospital for 40 days, and the doctor explained to him the need to monitor his health condition periodically, and to commit to taking medicines after the transplant operation, pointing out that health insurance covered 70% of the costs of medicines, while a charitable organization covered the remaining 30%, but he faced difficulty. In completing the remaining treatment costs at the beginning of this year.

He explained that he had to return his family (wife and four children) to his country in 2017, after his financial situation deteriorated, because the salary he receives (4,500 dirhams) does not cover the daily obligations and needs of family members in terms of housing, food and education.

He said, “I do not know how to manage the value of the treatment that I need. I knocked on all available doors and took all paths, but all my efforts were in vain.”

One of the charitable societies in the country covered all the expenses of the patient’s kidney transplant.
