João Freire, a former training athlete for Varzim Sport Clube and current player for União Desportiva Lavrense, was stabbed outside a nightclub in Porto and is hospitalized in critical condition.
The crime took place in the early hours of Sunday, according to a family member of the footballer, on social media.
“At dawn today, after a trip with friends to Via Rapida, [o João] he was surprised by a despicable being who put his life on hold. There were two stab wounds that took down a young man with everything to work out”, wrote an aunt of the footballer, aged 20, on the social network Facebook.
On the Internet, the two clubs, Póvoa de Varzim and Matosinhos, left, this Sunday, a message of strength to the athlete and his family.
