The product from Oxbow, Sask., has 14 points (five goals, nine assists), 85 penalty minutes and nine major bouts in 56 games this season. He’s shooting at a career low of 5.7%. Jeannot also had 213 hits this season, ranking fourth in the league. During his 2021-22 rookie campaign, he scored 24 goals, which led all rookies, and 41 points in 81 games. Although he was dropped from the shortlist, he put his name to the talks for the Calder Memorial Trophy. He shot 19.4%, a major difference from this season. In the same season, he set a Predators franchise record with 318 hits in a single season.
The 25-year-old was listed as a new target at No. 29 on Frank Seravalli’s trade target chart on Daily Faceoff ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. Seravalli notes that Jeannot is « a player with size, an advantage and someone who can contribute to the penalty kill. » Jeannot also comes in at a cheap average annual value of $800,000 he will be a restricted free agent this summer.
An undrafted forward in the NHL, Jeannot spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors. During his four years with the Warriors, he had 170 points (77 goals, 93 assists) in 267 games. Jeannot’s career was storied, going from undrafted to being crushed in the ECHL and American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals and Chicago Wolves. His NHL totals include 34 goals and 28 assists for 62 points in 152 games.
Jeannot being kept out of the roster comes the same day the Predators announced that the franchise’s sole general manager, David Poile, would step down in June, and head coach Barry Trotz is expected to take over. . The Predators are fifth in the Central Division with a 28-22-6 record.
