Thanks to the Au pair cultural exchange program, Juliana Montesino takes care of a girl in the US.
If in the past they told him that it was his destiny to live in New York, he did not believe it. What’s more, neither she nor she would have imagined it and that her good vibes accompanied her since she was a child. But Juliana Montesino understood that life is a roulette wheel of surprises in which you can allow yourself different experiences.
Thanks to the Au pair program to be a nanny abroad, she was encouraged to complete the requirements and follow the step by step that would take her to North America. “She thought, if everything happens, I’ll send her forward,” said the 27-year-old from Jujuy who traveled with the desire to discover a new world. That’s how she -through that cultural care- she started it all. “I subscribed to the platform and I had to fill out a profile. They (families) are looking at babysitter profiles and see what they think. It would be like an application for babysitters that if there is a match, the contact is generated by video call and we agree until we the match is made, which is when the contract is made”, he explained without failing to mention that only until the moment of meeting personally, can you know how the deal is and others.
“I was sad because it was leaving my family and having the uncertainty of not knowing how I could get through it,” said Montesino, who took it as a personal challenge, all inclusive, to test the English he had learned in his childhood. But when he arrived, the more informal and relaxed English style made him understand that it was more difficult than he had thought. It is then when learning from the other became stronger and the connections won the game.
Wrapped in a halo of conflicting emotions, upon stepping on Yankee soil for the first time, she began to unveil the mysteries that she imagined during the trip. “It’s impressive what the technology is, the state-of-the-art airport, everything she saw,” she recalled. And it is that the magic of the different could be breathed in that moment where there were no eyes to see and not get lost in the permanent novelty. Thus, the long-awaited meeting with the Wright family was possible and Glen Cove, a city within New York, began to become visible as a new home. For this reason, she continued with her dream in which speaking the language day by day became her best ally when it came to communication.
“I live with my mother and her daughter, whom I take care of. They are good to me, they include me in everything and I thank them because not everyone has that experience. Until you arrive and meet, you don’t know how it can be,” said Montesino, who values every moment in “The Big Apple” together with the possibility of getting to know Manhattan; San Francisco in California; Orlando, Florida or have fun in the different attractions offered by a first world country. “It’s crazy to feel part of the community. Every day I go to look for the girl I take care of at school and I come across the same parents or nannies, we already know each other.
For them I am ‘Argentina’ and they tell me all the time: ‘Messi, Messi'”, explained “Juli” with a laugh as she is known by her friends in Argentina and the United States, where she is part of a crossfit group so as not to lose the rhythm in physical activity “They are cool and make me feel re-contained while away. We get together to have lunch or go out,” said this young woman who lived the World Cup in the most beautiful way, including being part of the public when the Argentine Soccer Team played the game against Jamaica, in New Jersey. “The World Cup was crazy, here they are all fans of Messi”, said the amazed woman who reinforces her memories before the Americans by saying that her Jujuy is unique due to the warmth of the people, the exquisite food and the natural landscapes that are truly dreamed of.
