New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been arrested by the CBI in the liquor policy corruption case. The arrest was recorded after eight hours of questioning.
Sisodia arrived at the CBI headquarters this morning to appear for questioning. The interrogation began at 11 am at the CBI office on Lodhi Road in Central Delhi.
Before appearing for questioning, Sisodia had tweeted that he would fully cooperate with the investigation and that it would not matter if he had to spend a few days in jail. “We have the blessings of lakhs of children and crores of people,” Sisodia added.
Sisodia visited the Gandhi Memorial at Rajghat and went to the CBI office. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that God is with Sisodia. AAP leader Sanjay Singh had alleged that the leaders were put under house arrest before questioning Sisodia.
The CBI issued an order banning gatherings outside the CBI headquarters in Delhi. 144 was imposed in the area following an intelligence report that there would be a protest by AAP leaders. The police have also put in heavy security outside Sisodia’s official residence.
The CBI had earlier informed him that he should appear for questioning on February 19 in connection with the case. But he, who is also the Finance Minister of Delhi, requested an extension of time for his appearance citing that the budget was about to be held.
