Piotr Żyła became the world champion in ski jumping in Planica. His jump was rated as perfect. The Pole will take home not only the gold medal, but also a considerable sum of money.
On Saturday, Piotr Żyła stayed in Planica, who was 13th after the first round, ahead of the Germans Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger. In the first jump he jumped 97.5 m, but in the second round he broke the hill record with 105 m, advanced to first place and defended the title won two years ago in Oberstdorf.
Edward Przybyła, a longtime FIS judge, assessed the jumper’s performance as “perfect”. – This final jump was a real firecracker! He was perfect – from a beautiful bounce, to an equally wonderful flight, to landing. And 105 meters is a new record for this hill! There was really nothing to complain about, he said.
Piotr Żyła for the victory in Planica, the equivalent of approx. PLN 150,000. zloty. About 94,000 PLN for the second place will go to Andreas Wellinger, and Karl Geiger for the third about 56 thousand. zloty.
The medal won on Saturday in Planica is the seventh in the Żyła collection in competitions of this rank. He already has a gold (2021) and bronze (2017) in individual competitions, and a gold (2017) and three bronze (2013, 2015 and 2021) in the team competition.
