Luhut Unravels the Story Behind Kopiko’s Presence When Visiting Elon Musk in the US

Indonesian candy, Curved, was in the spotlight last year. This happened when the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan brought the candy when he met Tesla boss Elon Musk in the United States in April 2022.

Now Luhut is opening up the story behind Kopiko’s presence in his meeting with Elon Musk. This was revealed by him in a podcast conversation with the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno.

Initially, Sandiaga asked why Luhut gave Kopiko when he met Elon Musk. He said this was discussed virally on social media.

“Father made it viral in cyberspace when you gave this Kopiko to Elon Musk, what time did you think at that time sir,” Sandiaga asked Luhut in the Wonderful Indonesia Podcast on Kemenparekraf’s official YouTube channel, quoted on Sunday (26/2/2023).

Luhut admitted that at first he had no intention of bringing Kopiko to a meeting with Elon Musk, but someone told him that the candy had already been taken to space and Elon Musk would have liked it.

It was from there that Luhut finally wanted to bring and offer Curved to his meeting with Elon Musk. According to him there is nothing wrong with bringing Kopiko which is a product made in the country.

“I don’t know anyone who said ‘sir, later if you and Elon Musk offer Kopiko like that.’ I just said that there, I think because it was made in Indonesia, that’s it,” said Luhut.

Hey, his meeting with Elon Musk arrived, during that meeting it was Luhut who offered Kopiko directly to Elon Musk. In fact, Luhut also mentioned that Kopiko had been taken to outer space to Elon Musk.

“Elon look at this Kopiko, Indonesian made. It’s been to anu, to what, space, outer space at the international station,” said Luhut while imitating his conversation with Elon Musk at that time.

Elon Musk also tried Kopiko. The Tesla boss immediately liked the Kopiko taste, said Luhut. So from there the candy immediately went viral.

“Let me try, that’s what he said. He just bit it, ‘oh its good, good’ he said. So it went viral immediately,” continued Luhut.

Thinking of Buying Kopiko Shares
Luhut also said that it was not only the candy that went viral, the shares of the company that produces Kopiko also immediately skyrocketed after the meeting with Elon Musk.

Carried away, Luhut joked that at that time he should have also bought Mayora’s shares, which is a company that produces Kopiko to make a profit.

“So Kopiko’s shares went up. If I knew that, I would buy those shares too,” he joked.

In notes detikcom, Mayora Indah’s shares, codenamed MYOR shares, immediately skyrocketed after Luhut’s meeting with Elon Musk. Especially after the photo of Luhut and Elon Musk posing holding Kopiko.

At that time MYOR’s shares flew up to 4.91% or around 80 points the day after Luhut and Elon Musk’s meeting. At that time, MYOR’s share price reached Rp. 1,710 per share.
