Researchers have found correlated genes that cause many migraine and headache sufferers to also struggle with glycemic disorders. The findings come after researchers analyzed the genomes of thousands of migraine patients to see if any genetic links could be found.
“Of the nine glycemic traits we looked at, we found a significant genetic correlation of fast insulin and glycated hemoglobin with both migraine and headache,” said Rafikul Islam, one of the study’s authors. “We also found regions containing genetic risk factors common to migraine and fast insulin, fast glucose and glycated hemoglobin.”
