We welcome the third month of the year with temperatures close to the climatic norm, according to Meteo Balkans data.
In the coming days, the Balkans will come under the influence of an expanding anticyclone located to the north of the peninsula. The weather in Bulgaria will be cool and partly cloudy. We also expect snowfall over the Northwest Pre-Balkans. There will be cloud breaks over Eastern Bulgaria.
According to the main meteorological models, towards the end of the first ten days of March, a good winter situation awaits us.
During the first ten days of March, average monthly temperatures are expected to be lower than usual. One of the reasons for this is the transfer of a colder air mass from the northeast and an expanding anticyclone over southeastern Europe.
During the first days of the month, precipitation will also accumulate on its southern periphery, and on the mountains it will be from snow, and over southwestern Bulgaria – from rain.
By the end of the ten-day period, it will remain partly cloudy and temperatures will remain low. On March 5-6, there will also be a period without precipitation and with temporary cloud breaks.
Towards the end of the first ten days, we expect the passage of a Mediterranean cyclone. The expected precipitation will be from snow, and they will be more significant in the Rilo-Rhodope massif.
In the second ten days of March, the average monthly temperatures are expected to be 5-8 degrees below the climatic norm. It will be cold with temperatures below minus 10 degrees in Southwest Bulgaria. Temperatures around minus 15 degrees Celsius are also expected in the mountains. It will be warmer over Eastern Bulgaria – up to 5-7 degrees Celsius.
The weather will be mostly sunny, but it will also stay cold.
Towards the end of the period, we expect another change in circulation and temperatures will gradually rise. More precipitation is expected, but this time from rain.
The latest data from the GFS and ECMWF global models predict that the upcoming circulation will hold until at least the beginning of the third decade of March. Temperatures in South-Eastern Europe will rise significantly and will be around the climatic norm. The weather on the peninsula will be partly cloudy. The expected maximum temperatures will be between 10-13°C.
During the third ten-day period, the Balkan Peninsula is expected to fall under the influence of another cyclone positioned over Greece. The weather will be demonic with frequent showers of rain. Temperatures will rise and will be around the climatic norm. The expected maximum values will be between plus 15-22°C.
