If you have an old phone at home, you could earn yourself quite a bundle. The American woman who hid her still-wrapped first-generation iPhone also knows about it. It has now been auctioned for more than 63 thousand dollars (roughly 1.4 million crowns).
Storing old mobile phones can be worthwhile. This is proven by Sunday’s auction, in which it was possible to get an unboxed first-generation iPhone. And the amount for which it was auctioned surprised even the experts, the portal writes BBC.
The interested party paid an incredible 63,356 dollars for it (over 1.4 million crowns in conversion). That’s more than 105 times its sale price. “To find an original and first model from 2007 still in unopened packaging is truly remarkable,” said Mark Montero of LCG Auctions.
For many years, the mobile phone was lying in the home of the American Karen Green. She got it in 2007 from her friends after she got a job as a manager. At the time, however, she had a contract with Verizon, while AT&T had the iPhone exclusivity, and Green didn’t want to risk losing her number or termination fees, the portal said Business Insider.
That’s why she decided to hide the box with the phone. She found out what treasure she has at home only after a similar piece was sold for 10,000 dollars (approximately 222,000 crowns).
Old phones are regularly sold at auctions for decent money. However, it depends on the condition and type of mobile phone. “For example, only brand new and unopened first generation iPhones in mint condition are valuable,” explained Montero.
For example, the first portable phone from Motorola is sold on the eBay auction house for less than three million crowns. Its original price in Great Britain was around 3,000 pounds (approximately 80,000 crowns).
