Together with the insurance company MotorEasy, experts interviewed more than 25,000 owners of various large crossovers. They found out what kind of breakdowns they encountered during the operation of their cars.
Also, the owners of crossovers shared how much it cost them to repair cars and how long it took to troubleshoot. After that, the experts assigned each model its reliability rating.

9. BMW X3 (diesel)
Release years: 2018 – our time
Reliability Rating: 95,7%
BMW X3 has excellent handling and good reliability. Only 17% of the owners of the diesel version of the crossover experienced breakdowns in two years of operation.
About a quarter of the cars were under repair for more than a week. Often problems were fixed in just a day or even faster.
8. Honda CR-V (Diesel)
Release years: 2012 — 2018
Reliability Rating: 95,9%
The Honda CR-V is valued for its spaciousness and good comfort. The model has gained an excellent reputation for its reliability, but diesel cars most often suffer from breakdowns.
16% of the owners of this crossover experienced breakdowns. Often they were related to the battery, engine or exhaust system.
7. Mitsubishi Outlander (hybrid)

Reliability Rating: 96,0%
The Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid is not only economical, but also reliable. Only 10% of cars of this model had malfunctions.
The main problem of the car is electronics. It crashes most of the time.
6.Volvo XC60 (Diesel)

Reliability Rating: 96,7%
The first-generation Volvo XC60 crossover rarely broke down. Approximately 11% of the owners of this car encountered malfunctions.
The only problem with the crossover is the suspension. Nevertheless, breakdowns were often managed to be fixed in just a day.
5. Alfa Romeo Stelvio (diesel)

Alfa Romeo Stelvio destroys the stereotypes about the unreliability of Italian cars. Only 16% of the owners of this sports crossover experienced breakdowns.
Most often, the model fails the exhaust system or electronics. Many problems could be fixed in the shortest possible time.
4. Honda CR-V (hybrid)

The new generation Honda CR-V remains reliable and comfortable. Only about 11% of model owners experienced minor breakdowns.
The 12-volt battery and interior trim cause the most complaints. However, no serious problems were recorded.

Reliability Rating: 98,1%
The petrol version proved to be the most reliable among all BMW X3. Also, this modification is cheaper to maintain.
The main problem is body parts or electronics not related to the engine. Their repair took quite a bit of time.
2. Lexus NX

Reliability Rating: 98,5%
In Europe, the model is offered only in a hybrid version. It turned out to be not only economical, but also reliable.
Only 3% of the owners of this car had breakdowns. The most problematic places are interior decoration and electronics.

Toyota RAV4 proved to be the most reliable large crossover. Only 2% of owners reported breakdowns.
Repairs were needed only for the 12-volt battery and suspension. Their repair took less than a day and was inexpensive.
