The TV24 program “About the war in Ukraine with Igor Rajev” will look back on the past year tonight. In it, the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, former military officer Igors Rajev will present his vision of the past and the future. Following the initiative of the presenter Jānis Labucs, I.Rajevs also agreed to summarize the biggest loss, the most important battle, the biggest success and failure of the year. Let’s take a look!
Biggest loss of the year
According to I. Rajev, it was at the beginning of the war, because then the self-confidence of the Russian army, the total lack of information about what is happening in Ukraine and how the “special military operation” should take place, clearly appeared.
If people don’t understand what’s going on and don’t know what to do, if the wrong resources are prepared and misused, everything goes backwards. As a result, the Russian troops had to quickly withdraw from Kyiv and this can be considered one of the biggest losses.
The most important battle of the year
Here, too, I. Rajev highlights the beginning of the war and the battle in Kyiv, because it was immediately like a turning point. Russia’s plan to quickly come to a victory celebration turned into a protracted war and ended with a “meat machine” taking place in Donbass. It has been the most important Ukrainian victory, even more important than the capture of Kharkiv and Kherson.
The biggest success of the year
The politician considers it a success that the Ukrainian army was able to balance the need to enter the front lines with the preparation of reserves. It is clear that the Ukrainian army has more forces than those currently fighting in Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhia.
All units should not be sent into battle at once, because they must be prepared, armed, and rest periods must be taken into account. That is why this is the greatest success of Ukraine – the ability to balance and not create “holes” in the defense line, which could lead to dramatic losses. They have proven to be excellent planners.
Biggest failure of the year
Speaking of the biggest failure of the year, we should remember the first half of the war, when there was talk of the activation of Ukrainians in Kharkiv. Popasnaya was lost, which also led to the loss of Severdonetsk and Lisichansk. And now – the besieged Bakhmut.
