Last night many were surprised when Baldur’s Gate 3 appeared at Sony’s State of Play presentation. Here, Larian Studios announced that the highly anticipated action RPG will be released at the end of August not only on PC, Mac and GeForce Now, but also on PlayStation 5. Since then, many have questioned whether Sony paid for the console exclusivity.
Nothing of the sort happened. Larian Studios doesn’t play the exclusivity game. Swen Vincke he asked community for peace. Although the Xbox Series X/S version of his game was not announced, everything indicates that Baldur’s Gate 3 will reach the new generation of consoles from Microsoft. Only it probably won’t be at the end of August, but a little later.
We also learned that Baldur’s Gate 3 will have local cooperation. You will be able to play with your friend or family member in split screen. Another good news is support for sharing progress across platforms, so there’s nothing stopping you from playing on PC and then continuing on PS5. Online then supports 4 players.
In addition to this, there is also full support for PC drivers. And as for the main antagonist, you play that yourself J. K. Simmons, known from the Spider-Man series. Even within the world of video games, however, Simmons is no newcomer, as he proves Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 or Portal 2.
“Ketheric is a man with complex ambitions and motivations, so when we were looking for someone to voice him, we knew we had to work with a well-known, distinctive actor who could deliver the polished performance we wanted – which is why we chose to cast JK Simmons. While we expected it, we were still surprised by how much his performance helped deepen the character’s character. We’ll be introducing two more antagonists in the coming months – stay tuned,” explained creative director Swen Vincke.
If you’re tempted enough, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released in Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and collector’s edition. Owners of the Early Access version on PC can automatically expect to receive the Deluxe Edition.
