The rental price brake has failed. Now there is a risk of a massive increase in rents. But the ÖVP does not leave desperate tenants hanging: With a simple trick, rent payments can be reduced to zero. All it takes is buying a house in the country.
VIENNA – “It’s super easy,” explains the new ÖVP mascot Hausi in an advertising clip while strolling through the Blue Lagoon. “You just take the six-figure inheritance that you received like any normal Austrian on your 18th birthday and bring it into the next Raika.”
Beware, rookie mistakes: “Don’t forget to get your parents’ confirmation that you can deposit their house as security and also your grandparents’ farm, which the parents already have as security!” And you already have your real estate loan.”
Actually, the governing parties wanted to agree on a rental price brake, such as that in Germany. But with the “Elk-Haus für Alle” campaign, the ÖVP put a much better model on the table, which they then used as always when negotiating with the Greens. Finally the Austrians can sleep peacefully again.
Hausi on Tour
ÖVP mascot Hausi scratches the roof tile cap on his head and pushes up the blinds on his Velux glasses. Today he is visiting single parent Karolina (39) from Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. She opens the door to her old apartment and is greeted by Hausi with a high five.
Moving boxes are stacked on the herringbone parquet, Karolina is just dismantling a Pax box. “I can no longer afford the rent, but it’s my own fault, my landlord doesn’t have it easy either, 250 apartments are an enormous stress factor, and all the entries in the land register at the notary don’t pay for themselves.”
Hausi nods: “It’s super stressful, you don’t want to swap places with landlords, they have a lot of pressure to carry such a thick wallet around all day, that’s not without danger either, keyword lumbago.”
Karolina is moving out next week. “I’ll just get myself a cheap house in the commuter belt, I heard the Vienna Woods are supposed to be nice.” She only wants to study the house prices in the moving van. Laughing, Hausi slaps her on the shoulder and pulls out his mobile phone.
“Look, there, a house in Purkersdorf. Only 35,000 euros! So the unlocking costs. Then another 400,000 for the ground and 700,000 for the construction. But you just have to work a little longer, life expectancy is increasing anyway, you only retire at 185.” Hausi smiles and gives Karolina a high five.
