Today, Saturday, the Court of Cassation reserved Mortada Mansour, President of Zamalek Club, pending a decision on his appeal against his one-month imprisonment on charges of insulting and slandering Mahmoud Al-Khatib, President of Al-Ahly Club.
Mortada Mansour surrendered himself to the court prior to hearing the appeal, in order to avoid issuing a ruling not accepting his appeal in accordance with the law.
On August 10, the Appellate Economic Misdemeanor Court amended the sentence of Mortada Mansour’s imprisonment from one year to one month imprisonment with work and enforcement, in the case of insulting and slandering Mahmoud Al-Khatib, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Ahly Club.
The Economic Misdemeanor Court had sentenced Mortada Mansour to one year in prison with labour. The accused appealed to the Court of Appeal, which issued its previous ruling.
Al-Ahly club’s lawyer, Mahmoud Othman, said that this ruling must be enforced immediately.
It is noteworthy that Mortada Mansour’s defense filed an appeal against the two-year prison sentence of his client, in the two lawsuits filed by the President of Al-Ahly Club, accusing him of insulting and defaming via social media, and a guarantee of 20,000 pounds to suspend execution, and a fine of another 20,000 for compensation.
