Another static ignition of the RS-25 rocket engine for the new American SLS rocket took place on February 22 at the Stennis Center in the state of Mississippi. The test was part of the certification process to verify the functioning of individual parts of the newly manufactured RS-25 rocket engines. The unusual thing was that this test was deliberately longer than the time the engines are supposed to run during the flight of the rocket. A longer ignition will better test the reliability of all technologies.
