At least 10 people have been killed and 23 injured in a coach accident in Algeria. The bus overturned on a road in the mountains and fell 150 meters, AFP news agency reported. How this could happen is still unknown.
The bus with tourists on board was on its way from the capital Algiers to the Tikjda ski area, about 150 kilometers east of Algiers. The road in the north of the country, where the accident happened, is considered difficult due to the height differences.
The area is a popular holiday destination for residents of the North African country. In recent weeks, a lot of snow has fallen in the mountain area, causing many to travel to the area.
Driving too fast
Serious accidents occur regularly in Algeria, according to the authorities, mainly by people who drive too fast. Public transport drivers often drive too fast. For that reason, the authorities have installed many speed cameras.
In 2021 there were more than 7000 traffic accidents in Algeria, resulting in more than 2600 deaths.
