Larian Studios says it is working on an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3, but says it is running into technical problems. That is why the company does not yet want to confirm whether the Xbox version will actually appear. The Belgian developer recently announced a PS5 version.
The developer says on Reddit that an Xbox version is being worked on, but that there are issues with the split-screen co-op mode. In a press release, the company writes that the mode on the Series X and Series S consoles is not “up to the same standard”, making it appear that the lesser specifications of the Series S play a role in the technical problems.
Only when Larian Studios has found a solution to this problem, the developer wants to officially announce the Xbox version. The company does not seem to be sure that the problem can be solved and therefore does not want to officially announce the version, for fear of having to scrap or postpone it later.
Larian Studios recently announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be coming to PlayStation 5 on August 31, alongside PC and Mac. Because the company didn’t mention an Xbox version, some fans thought it was an exclusivity deal. This was quickly deniedbut the company still wanted to explain this in more detail.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an RPG game set in the Forgotten Realms world of Dungeons & Dragons. Previous games were made by BioWare, the last of which appeared 23 years ago. The new game has been available as Early Access since October 2020.
