Troubled Juventus, Chiellini: It’s hard to be away from Turin

Jakarta

Former captain Juventus, Giorgio Chielliniadmitted it was hard not to be in Turin during the Old Lady’s financial investigation which has led to a deduction of 15 points.

Chiellini left the Allianz Stadium last summer for Los Angeles FC after spending most of his career at Juventus. He became part of the team in 2020 when the players agreed to give up four months’ wages during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The former Italy captain is the one responsible for informing his team-mates about the financial agreement with the club, which emerged from a WhatsApp chat. The communications were investigated by Turin prosecutors and partly featured in Italian media.

“For me, it hurts. I feel sad and hurt by what happened to Juventus. It’s hard not to be in Turin, and it’s not easy for everyone who loves this club. Now, the fans have to be patient because the club fights for everyone , and I hope everything ends in the best way,” Chiellini told The Athletic, quoted by Football Italia.

“On the pitch, they have to think game by game, and we will see at the end of the season. As for what happens on the court, we don’t know – it could be bad, or it could be good. With the responsibility I have at the club it’s difficult to be away from the team,” he continued.

The problem for Juventus is investigators regarding the players receiving three months of under-the-table wages. An investigation by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office is ongoing, while the FIGC has sentenced Juventus to 15 points for artificially inflating transfer fees.

A new penalty could hit Juventus in the coming months, with the Sports Court also looking at their salary maneuvers.
