“The plan made by the Chinese government is an important contribution. I think the advocacy of the need to avoid the use of nuclear weapons is of particular importance,” said the spokesman for UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric, regarding the document published by the Chinese authorities on the conflict in Ukraine.
And he stressed, in an interview with journalists reported by the French Press Agency (AFP), the “shared responsibility” to reach a “just peace.”
Earlier in the day, the members of the UN Security Council and the foreign ministers of the participating countries met, on the occasion of the anniversary of the start of the conflict in Ukraine, on February 24, 2022.
The Chinese government had published a proposal consisting of 12 items, in which it called on Moscow and Kiev to resume peace negotiations, warning against the use of nuclear weapons and demanding that civilians be avoided.
In the document, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that “all parties should support Russia and Ukraine to move in the same direction, and resume direct dialogue between them as soon as possible,” stressing that “nuclear weapons should not be used and nuclear wars should not be waged.”
