Matthias Schoenaerts alongside Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant in HBO series

In 2014, Matthias Schoenaerts and Kate Winslet already shared the poster of the British costume film A little chaos. The two will now be seen together again in the political mini-series The palace.

There is already a first image of ‘The palace’, but little is known about the plot and the division of roles for the time being. The HBO series promises to tell the story of what takes place within the walls of a palace during a year. Not just any, but that of a modern, European regime.

What is certain is that Kate Winslet will play the leading role. Two years ago she also wore a so-called ‘limited series’ from HBO with Mare of Easttown. The cast has more well-known names. Hugh Grant will also be seen, alongside Andrea Riseborough, among others, who recently made headlines with her controversial Oscar nomination for the film ‘To Leslie’.

Nor an unknown: Matthias Schoenaerts. He is mentioned first after Winslet, which suggests that his share will be significant after all. Nine years ago, the two already shared the screen in ‘A little chaos’. That moderately received film was about what goes on between a few landscape architects in Louis XIV’s Versailles.

The Palace is directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs. Hobbs previously canned a number of episodes of ‘The crown’. The now 81-year-old Frears, who is one of the producers along with Winslet and Hobbs, has directed award-winning films such as ‘The Queen’ and ‘Dangerous liaisons’. The showrunner is Will Tracy, screenwriter and producer of the hit HBO series ‘Succession’.

There will be shooting in Austria and Great Britain, among others. ‘The palace’ does not have a release date yet.
