Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaThe research team from Jamf Threat Labs found crypto-jacking in MacOS. Virus malware it turned out to be hidden inside software pirated version of Final Cut Pro video editing.

Final Cut Pro is actually a software from Apple. However, the pirated version runs XMRig, tools command to mine cryptocurrency running in the background, quoted from Apple Insider, Friday (24/2/2023).

Malware it uses Invisible Internet Project (i2p) for communication, that is, a layer that can anonymize traffic. That way, then malware can download malicious components and send the mined currency ending up in the perpetrator’s wallet.

Malware will infect the device shortly after the Final Cut Pro application is downloaded. There will be a process of downloading and setting up malware, as well as the XMRig command line component. Apple Insider reporting crypto mining will be disguised as ‘mdworker_local’ process.

However, MacBook users can have a more relieved name. This is because MacOS Ventura is said to be able to block malicious applications from being used again.

But on the other hand, MacOS cannot prevent miner execution. So, when Macbook users get a message saying Final Cut Pro is damaged and can’t be opened, that means malware installed.

Worse yet, Jamf found this virus was not detected as harmful to any security vendor. So it seems to detect it, at least for now can not rely on software anti-malware.

To prevent your device from being infected with malware, Apple Insider remind not to download pirated software. For example, keep buying the original Final Cut Pro, which costs US $ 299.99 (Rp. 4.5 million).
