Grupo Firme, Karol G and Sebastián Yatra were the winners of the thirty-fifth edition of Premio Lo Nuestro, as the Mexicans won six awards and the Colombians each with four, at a gala in which Ivy Queen, Victor Manuelle were also celebrated and the Untouchable group.
Bad Bunny, Shakira, Daddy Yankee and Bizarrap were others who had a great night, winning three Lo Nuestro Awards each, in a three-hour show hosted by Yatra, Paulina Rubio, Alejandra Espinoza and Adrián Uribe.
Other artists with multiple medals were Christian Nodal, Maluma, Romeo Santos and Rauw Alejandro with two each.
“A summer without you” by Bad Bunny was the album of the year, while Karol G was awarded artist of the year.
The start of the ceremony, which took place at the Miami-Dade Arena, was in charge of Yatra, who was the most nominated. The Colombian artist premiered his song “Una noche sin pensar” live, accompanied by dancers and three-dimensional figures, in a powerful musical number.
Under the motto “the world is ours”, the 2023 Premio Lo Nuestro was awarded in 39 categories, an increase of seven compared to last year.
Grupo Firme made the audience vibrate with a double presentation by singing one of their songs and a highly applauded participation in the tribute to the Intocable group, in which Pepe Aguilar also participated.
Marc Anthony and Maluma, also with nine nominations, premiered their new salsa “La Fórmula” on television, in a presentation that began in black and white and exploded in colors when the key to this musical genre born in New York began to sound.
Another great space for salsa at the Lo Nuestro Award ceremony was the tribute to Víctor Manuelle, for which great artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Jerry Rivera, Norberto Vélez, Tito Nieves and Noel Schajris were summoned.
“Thirty years of doing this and the most beautiful thing about this is to continue in force and continue doing it,” said Victor Manuelle, recalling the moment, minutes later in the press room and after receiving recognition for one billion listeners on streaming platforms in Audio.
Ricardo Montaner, Gloria Trevi, Melendi, Aymée Nuviola, Christian Nodal, Mau y Ricky, Gente de Zona, Maffio, TINI, Carlos Rivera, Carin León, Elena Rose, Fuerza Regida, Tiago PZK and Álvaro Díaz were other artists who presented musical numbers.
For her part, Paulina Rubio took a break from her role as host to launch her new song “It’s not my fault”, which she performed to great applause.
Reggaeton singer Ivy Queen received the Lo Nuestro Legacy Award for the Urban Genre. To celebrate, ‘La Caballota’ toured her greatest hits on stage, which she left those present standing up and highlighted the struggle she had in a genre dominated by men.
“I know what it is like to be told no, that music is not for you simply because you have ovaries. I also knew how to recognize my inner voice yelling at me, Ivy, don’t give up, you’re the horse. For this and many other things, and for the times I look at my daughter’s face and fill myself with fuel, today I celebrate this award with those who know me, love me and make me visible,” said the Puerto Rican star.
Karol G and Becky G won the Lo Nuestro Award for song of the year for their hit “MAMII.”
The celebration was marked by the absence of popular artists such as Bad Bunny, Becky G and Camilo, who each had nine nominations. Daddy Yankee also did not attend the event.
Others that were practically absent at the event were masks, the television network Televisa Univision decided, for the first time since March 2020, not to require coronavirus tests from any of the attendees or to suggest the use of masks, anticipating the suspension in United States of the health emergency as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
The night was closed by pianist Arthur Hanlon, who presented a medley of songs from his second HBO special “Piano y Mujer”, initially accompanied by Ivy Queen, Goyo and Lupita Infante.
