In this regard, Dr. Ahmed Kamel, Professor of Neurosurgery at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, warned against recurring the feeling of numbness in the feet when waking up from sleep, because it is usually a warning sign of some diseases.

Kamel said that numbness in the feet when waking up may indicate that the nerves in the lower extremities are under severe pressure, which may be caused by the body adopting the wrong position during sleep.

The professor of brain surgery added that peripheral neuropathy is one of the most prominent diseases revealed by numbness of the feet when waking up from sleep, especially if the patient has diabetes.
According to Healthline, diabetes causes numbness and pain in the feet, as a result of high blood sugar and its negative effect on peripheral nerves, as it leads to inflammation or damage.

Kamel pointed out that there is a relationship between not feeling the feet when waking up and changing them to blue or purple and a decrease in the flow of oxygen-laden blood to the lower part of the body.
Low blood supply to the extremities often occurs with peripheral artery disease, a disease in which the arteries in the hands and feet are narrowed, according to Medical News Today.

He emphasized that people with autoimmune diseases, such as patients with rheumatoid arthritis, are among the groups most likely to feel numbness in the feet during sleep and when waking up.
