These “young committed locals”, as Chantal Mauchet calls them, were received at the prefecture this Thursday afternoon, to participate in a “‘serious game” organized by the national office for combatants and victims of war (OnaCVG) around of the exhibition “Jean Moulin, a life of commitments”, and above all to share their experience. The Secretary of State for Youth and the SNU, Sarah El Haïry, had planned to come to Montauban to congratulate them: she had to cancel her visit for health reasons “but the minister wants us to send her your testimonies” , declared the prefect, in the presence of several personalities (1).
Let’s listen to these young people. There is Laure Grimaux and Louis Sanches, who manage to overcome their shyness to explain why they joined a section of young firefighters, she in Lavit, he in Corbarieu, Villebrumier and Monclar-de-Quercy. “I have been going to the Lavit fire station since I was very young. At the end of the year, I will pass the certificate to close these four years of JSP. The rest for me will be a volunteer firefighter. Rescue to anyone or firefighting, for me it’s just to feel useful”, explains Laure. Louis also imagines joining the corps of volunteer firefighters, in the wake of his grandfather, “he was a firefighter at Monclar.”
Emma recruited live as a standard bearer
Emma Porée, 18, proudly wears the Universal National Service Ambassador T-shirt. With Thaïs Josset, 17, she is going to meet this week young people from Ile-de-France welcomed at the Bourdelle high school in Montauban for the cohesion stay. “Me, my career at the SNU was a bit unusual, says the Nègrepelissienne. Due to the Covid pandemic, I started with the mission of interest, which I carried out at SDIS 82 in 2020 and it was not is that the following year I took part in the cohesion stay in Lauzerte. It was out of curiosity that I registered at the SNU. Someone came to tell us about it at Capou high school. It is the military dimension that attracted me. The SNU brings a lot of civic values and allows me to develop a lot of things, such as group work. On this point, I had a lot of trouble. Since I took the SNU training, I have been working with the others in a much more natural way”, recognizes Emma.
Her profile caught the eye of Erick Lebrun, the president of the association of members of the National Order of Merit … who recruited her as a standard bearer.
This role of standard bearer, Théana Nicolas and Lucas Robert take it very seriously. “Committing to memory” when you are 17 makes sense, underlines Lucas, a Terminale student at Jean-Baylet high school in Valence-d’Agen. “Being a standard bearer is truly an honor and a duty. It can’t be other than honoring those who sacrificed themselves to defend our country and our values in past battles.”
Théana, a student at Théas high school in Montauban, is proud to carry the flag of the UNC section of Castelsarrasin. The girl joined the citizen reserve.
Rayane Gamrani embodies commitment to sport. At 20, the Montalbanais performs civic service at the prefecture, as “ambassador generation 2024”. “In partnership with Chloé Delbreil, we are responsible for promoting the Olympic Games and the values of Olympism as well as the practice of sport for all.” Himself a high-level athlete (member of the Montauban weightlifting club, Rayane practices athletic strength at the international level), the law student turns into a journalist. “We collect interviews from high-level Tarn-et-Garonne athletes that we publish on the social networks of the prefecture.”
Rayane’s mission will end in May. That of Hajar Benyahya El Morabity is for the long term. This young Moroccan who arrived in France in 2017 chose to act, at the agricultural and horticultural high school in Moissac, against the scourge of school bullying. She also organizes social activities for Lepah interns.
