Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah – one of the facilities of the Emirates Health Services Corporation – in coordination with the National Center for Organizing Transplantation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues, which is under the management and supervision of the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, transfers the organs of a brain-dead Emirati donor after preserving the deceased’s organs and implementing the donation procedures according to the approved procedures for transfers organs and tissues in the country.
In this regard, the Ministry of Health and Prevention launched the “Hayat” program, which provides individuals over the age of 21 with the opportunity to express their desire to donate organs in cases of brain death. It also constitutes a solution for many patients and contributes to leaving a positive impact on the life of the donor and recipient.
The family of the brain-dead decided to donate all of her healthy organs out of their belief in the principle of “together we sow hope” to save many patients with organ failure, after it was confirmed that the patient had brain death as a result of severe brain hemorrhage that led to complete brain damage. The medical team at Al Qasimi Hospital contacted the National Center To organize the transfer and transplantation of human organs and tissues, to supervise the transfer of more than one organ, as it is expected that more than one patient will benefit from the donated organs.
Dr. Essam Al Zarouni, Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at the Emirates Health Services Corporation, confirmed that organ donation, in light of the presence of the Center for Transplantation of Organs and Human Tissue, will enhance the pace of work on establishing a national bank for organs and contribute to raising community awareness of the importance of organ donation to save the lives of patients who need transplantation and transplantation. For his part, Dr. Aref Al Nouriani, Director of Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah, indicated that the Center for Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues in the hospital, which was launched in 2020 in partnership with the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, aims to keep pace with the latest international health standards to achieve the aspirations of the state and its endeavors towards achieving leadership and excellence at both levels.
