After a recent hacker attack, the creators of Dark and Darker have been dealt another blow. This time, the IRONMACE studio has to face the accusations of a Korean developer of asset theft.
Update
Terence Seung-ha, president of the IRONMACE studio responsible for Dark and Darkerposted on Discord game message in which denied the allegations outlined below. The published statement reads:
Our code was built from scratch. Most of our assets were purchased on the Unreal Engine Marketplace. All other resources and documents related to the game design were created in-house. This has already been audited by an external agency. As far as we know, you can’t copyright a game genre. As for the lawsuit, we believe this is a separate private issue raised by one of our team members. No lawsuit has been filed against IRONMACE.
According to Seung-ha, rumors of a lawsuit “probably started by a third party.” According to the president, not all people who worked on P3 in Nexon, were to leave to help form IRONMACE. The result was a sudden success Dark and Darker could arouse jealousy in them, which in turn could lead to certain decisions.

Still in development, Dark and Darker has already won the hearts of players on Steam. IRONMACE’s production has been made available for testing on the Valve platform several times, each time attracting an increasing number of recipients.
Dark and Darker can be uphill
Praised by the community However, the dungeon crawler has recently faced many problems. First, during the last tests, the game’s infrastructure was attacked by hackers, which prevented players from logging into the servers.
Now it’s the developers’ turn Dark and Darker they must defend themselves against serious accusations. It was suggested that in the game the studio IRONMACE assets belonging to another developer were illegally used.
this information first handed over korean service This Is Game, who reported that some of the materials used in Dark and Darker may be owned by the studio Nexon.
The accusations seem serious
The stolen assets according to This Is Game allegedly come from Nexon’s project with the working name “P3”, which was announced in 2021. Still in the early stages of development, the game underwent a transformation, changing its name to “P7”. This, in turn, led to the dismissal of several employees.
According to the Vice President of Nexon, Dae-Hwon Kim (via mxdwn.com), the workers made redundant are today’s IRONMACE developers who were alleged to have “illegally used materials and assets that were being worked on at Nexon.”
Interestingly, mxdwn.com points to an interesting note on main page IRONMACE studies, in which we read:
We’ve seen with our own eyes how gaming corporations sell their souls for easy money. We are disappointed to see increasingly exploitative practices turning games into casinos instead of bringing joy to players.
For now, we don’t know if Nexon will take legal action against IRONMACE. The creators themselves Dark and Darker have not yet addressed the This Is Game article. We only know that they intend to focus on developing the game. On official discord brand users are discussing the case, but so far there has been no reaction from the developers.
Dark and Darker is to debut in early access on Steam at the turn of April and May this year. The premiere of the full version is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023.
