The service investigated, among other things, contacts of the woman at the Russian embassy. She is said to have taken cash from the embassy building in The Hague. Baudet denied receiving any money from Russia after previous accusations. The AIVD has according to the newspaper no indications that the party receives financial support from Russia.
The top boss of the AIVD, Erik Akerboom, visited Baudet’s office in 2020 to warn him about Russian intelligence operations. It is not clear whether he did anything with it. Forum for Democracy’s position has become more pro-Russian, even after the outbreak of war in Ukraine last year. The FvD leader calls in the conversation with Akerboom of Volkskrant ‘vague and unreal’. He said he didn’t see it as a warning. “If that was the case, he should have been more specific.”
