A five-year-old girl from Berlin who has been missing since Tuesday afternoon is dead. A police spokesman said she was found injured by passers-by in the Pankow public park in the evening. Paramedics attempted resuscitation. The child then died in the hospital. The police assume a homicide and arrested a German-Turkish 19-year-old as a suspect. The child had “at least one stab wound,” it said on Wednesday.
The child “had injuries consistent with homicide,” a police spokesman said. “A suspect has already been arrested in this connection.” Police officers had secured tracks in the park until late in the evening. Now possible witnesses are to be questioned. It was initially unclear when the autopsy of the girl’s body would take place. After the five-year-old died, people put up candles near where she was found, and a yellow flower and a small cuddly toy were discarded.
