Electric cars are a new item that not much is known about maintenance, one of which is when it is submerged in a flood. Instead of replacing the damaged component, Rich Benoit tried to revive the dead Audi E-Tron like saving a cell phone after being submerged in water, namely soaking rice.
Rich Benoit is a YouTuber who is also known as Rich Rebuilds. He often shares content repairing damaged cars. Well, this time Benoit bought the Audi E-Tron from the auction house.
The condition of the car is “unable to run” but Benoit gets half the price compared to the price tag for a new unit. One glance at the condition of the car shows why it’s so cheap, water stains can be seen on the back of the seats and even on the window panes. The signs indicated the car was damaged due to being submerged in the flood.
Rich Benoit and his team then brought the Audi E-Tron into his garage. After conducting a diagnosis using VCDS, it was seen that the car had a malfunction in the electrical system, from the ABS to the battery. Rich Benoit thought the car was still wet.
To dry the car from the remnants of the flood, Rich had thought of using silica gel and cat sand. But the price is more expensive, for that he chose expired rice as much as 1.9 tons.
Rice is believed to be able to safely dry the inside of a wet cell phone. Rich Benoit also made a frame, then the car was filled with rice and covered with a tarpaulin. The car was then left for several days. Rice will technically absorb moisture.
Rich and his team then unwrapped the car and siphoned off the rice. To everyone’s surprise, the car not only started but also started moving under its own power. Unlike the first time at auction.
Even though the multi information screen still contains the inspection code, it means that many components still need to be repaired. But this is progress, because using rice to start a car that has been submerged in a flood actually functions like a cell phone.
