Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Android cellphone manufacturers are competing to present products with flashy specifications. Not only from a reliable chipset and jumbo battery, but also the quality of the camera with large megapixels and qualified technology.
Even though they have been scrambling, it turns out that GenZ has made the choice to be loyal to using the iPhone. At least that’s according to the latest data compiled FinancialTimes.
According to reports, GenZ in the United States have social pressure to own an iPhone. This encourages the younger generation to buy Apple products, from HP to other supporting devices.
GenZ itself is a demographic group born from 1996 to 2009. Currently, GenZ is the group that spends the most time on the internet and spends an average of 6 hours in front of a cellphone screen.
The data compiled shows that 34% of GenZ in the US use iPhones, compared to 10% who use Samsung cellphones and other Android manufacturers. Typically, iPhone users will also complete their product portfolio by buying AirPods, Apple Watch and Macs.
Apple built an exclusive ecosystem for its line of devices from the start. This makes iPhone users feel they have to buy other products so that device connectivity becomes seamless.
Canalys research shows that for every 100 iPhones sold worldwide, 26 iPads, 17 Apple Watches and 35 pairs of AirPods will also be sold, quoted by CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (22/2/2023).
This is different from Samsung. Every purchase of 100 HP from the South Korean manufacturer will encourage the purchase of less than 11 tablets, 6 smartwatchand 6 wireless earbuds.
This phenomenon is quite unique. The reason is, in general Apple devices are almost 3 times more expensive than Android products, which are mostly made by Chinese manufacturers.
Not only in the US, the GenZ trend of refusing to use Android can also be seen in Europe. In fact, iPhone market share in Europe is not as strong as Android.
Canalys research says 83% of iPhone users in Europe under the age of 25 don’t want to switch to Android. As GenZ ages, it is predicted that this trend will continue to grow and provide benefits for Apple. On the other hand, Android manufacturers will find it more difficult to compete.
The results of this study do not show trends in Asian and Indonesian markets. However, looking at the track record, trends brought from the western world will usually also stop by in Indonesia.
