Former Nuremberg NFL kicker Dominik Eberle made his XFL debut for his new team, the Seattle Sea Dragons, last weekend. However, he wore a jersey that did not quite correspond to the actual spelling of his name. Instead of his surname “Eberle”, the jersey of the German was provided with the lettering “Eberly”.
That’s not far from the spelling of his name, but it’s not the correct one. The reason for the glitch could have been the American pronunciation of his last name, which is pronounced “Eberly” in the US.
Dominik Eberle accidentally has the wrong name on his shirt
Some viewers of the game also noticed this. When a fan asked via Twitter whether that was an accident or possibly an “insider”, the 26-year-old reacted relaxed to me with a short comment: “You accidentally spelled it wrong.”
In Seattle, Eberle took over from Brandon Ruiz, the previous Sea Dragons kicker. These celebrated their premiere in the new edition of the XFL, which is directed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, among others, on February 19 this year.
In his short NFL career, Eberle, who comes from Nuremberg, played for the Raiders, Texans, Packers and Lions. However, he only made two appearances in total – he made his debut for the Texans in 2021.
