He also pointed to the best defense – the combination of a vaccine and re-infection
The National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases has identified a new dangerous variant of Omicron. The WHO is also watching it with particular attention.
“All variants of Omicron that are currently circulating have the feature that each of them evades immunity better. As a course – there is no evidence of a more severe course. We are at risk of infection, not a more severe course of the disease “, said the head of an infectious disease laboratory in Bern Dr. Asparuh Iliev before “Bulgaria in the morning”.
He also pointed out the best defense – the combination of vaccine and relapse.
“Many have gotten through the last year with one variant or another mildly. This hybrid immunity will give good protection. A double booster dose is the right move. People who have had an illness more than 6 months ago, who are vaccinated but have not had an illness are fine to have a booster This reduces the severe course,” explained Dr. Iliev.
The doctor pointed out that a recent study showed that the flu had the clinical picture of Omicron.
“Despite the claim that Omicron is a mild flu, there are statistics that the death rate from Omicron is twice that of influenza. The long-term consequences are separate. And we see that there are only 4 doses of vaccine administered for the last 24 hours. Vaccination should become routine, so that we are calm for the upcoming period,” urged Dr. Asparuh Iliev.
According to him, the situation seems under control, and with the passing of winter, we can rest easy that we will not have massive new waves of Covid-19.
